Don’t do today what you will want to undo tomorrow

Many of the goals we set, which involve change, involve us trying to undo actions we have taken in the past. Your past actions made you into who you currently are. So, if you’re trying to change who you are in some way, you may be trying to undo some of the actions you have done.

You could be trying to undo the times you chose to head to the pub instead of the gym after work. Or the times you chose to watch YouTube on the couch instead of scheduling a Zoom call with friends who live far away. Or the late-night meals you ordered.

This is the same idea, but from a different direction: What actions will you take today that you will want to undo tomorrow?

With productivity, awareness is key. It’s great to set goals to make positive changes.

But it’s even nicer not to set goals to undo your actions in the first place. What will you do today that you will want to undo tomorrow?
